Still thinking about your brand? I hate to be the one to tell you this,...

Why I turned down the opportunity to make money this week.

A client I’d worked with before came back asking for something “simple” — just some fonts and colours to hand to a developer.

But as we talked, I realised what they really wanted was bigger: to position their new brand as luxury.

And here’s the thing, you only get one chance to make a first impression. 

If we tried to shortcut it, the brand might look okay on the surface, but it wouldn’t create the feeling, trust, or desire that luxury demands.

So, instead of taking the quick job, I turned them down and gave them the next steps for free.

I advised them to test the idea first. Start small. Use their warm audience to get feedback. Learn what resonates.

We will then use this information to position and build the brand so it truly resonates and connects

Then, when the time comes to invest in the full brand, it will be built on real insight — not assumptions. 

It will launch strong the first time, hold its value, and deliver a better return on investment.

For the first time, I’m bringing my foundational brand building workshop to the Gold Coast....

The biggest gift about having my own business and no one to report to...

Is that I have been able to be there for my friend while she battles the Big C this year.

That I could sit with her through chemo and make her laugh, and be there on a week day if she needed someone.

She is resilient as all hell, but I was so grateful that I could drop everything and be there if/when she ever needed support.

Having that level of autonomy and freedom over my time and responsibilities is what makes the 24/7 business life all worth it. 

I never once had to feel bad about requesting time off from my boss and I was able to rearrange my schedule to be there.

The best news is that she is on the other side and the light is shining brightly at the end of the tunnel.

During treatment, we often talked about the after and what she can't wait to do, and today we got to do one of those things and celebrate over cake (she missed going to cafes and eating yummy food).

It was so nice to soak up the sun, mask free, hospital and chemo free, and celebrate the next chapter.

That level of freedom makes me happier than anything.
